About this case
Daniel, a 72-year-old Vietnam War veteran, lived alone with his dog, Snoopy, in a subdivision off Brown Gap Road in the Halls area of north Knox County, Tennessee. He was last seen walking near Black Oak Ridge Baptist Church off Old Maynardville Pike at about 2:00 a.m. on March 24, 2022, captured on the church's surveillance video.
When a neighbor came by later that day, she found his door open and Daniel gone. He had left behind his car, keys, wallet, cell phone, and glasses, along with Snoopy. Two days after he was reported missing, deputies found his shoes at the church, about half a mile from his home, facing the direction of his house.
Daniel has a condition that affects his balance, and his family says he couldn't walk far. The sheriff's office has asked residents near Brown Gap Road to check outbuildings, barns, crawl spaces, and vehicles on their property. A volunteer search team has conducted 27 searches and logged more than 2,000 hours on the ground. His case remains active with the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
His neighbor of more than twenty years described him as the kindest, most giving man you could meet, someone who loved his McDonald's breakfast sandwich and shopping early at Kroger. His family says he always put everyone else before himself.
