Daniel was last seen in-person by his next-door neighbor in Knoxville, TN, on March 23, 2022. On that day, the neighbor spoke with him briefly and arranged to pick up groceries for both of them. Daniel had given her his driver’s license and proof of income to go to a food pantry for him. Daniel also told her that he wasn’t feeling well.
According to his neighbor, they were best friends, and she said Daniel and she were the kind of neighbors that came knocking at the back door instead of the front.
When she went to drop off the groceries on March 24, the door to Daniel’s home was open but he was not there. On March 25, Daniel still wasn’t there. She attempted to call him, but he didn’t answer. On March 26, the third day, she went to the front door. The door was wide open, and the storm door was unlocked but Daniel was not there. The neighbor reported Daniel missing on March 26, 2022. Daniel had left behind his glasses, car, keys, wallet, and dog, Snoopy, at home.
Snoopy was potty-trained, but had used the bathroom in the house numerous times, indicating that Daniel had not been home for some time.
Two days after he was reported missing, deputies located Daniel’s slider shoes about half a mile from his home at Black Oak Ridge Baptist Church. According to Daniel’s nephew, the shoes were facing the direction of Daniel’s home. Investigators contacted the church and got a hold of surveillance video from March 24, 2022. Daniel was last seen on the video at 1:53 a.m. He appeared to walk south on Old Maynardville Pike toward Brown Gap Road and circle the church twice. He was last seen walking along the south side of the church, parallel with Brown Gap Road. Nobody is sure where he went next.
Daniel lived independently in a subdivision off Brown Gap Road with his dog, Snoopy. He managed his diagnosis of Ménière’s disease, which caused a severe ringing in his ears, much like vertigo. He also suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from the Vietnam War, according to his family.
Daniel is 75 years old, 6' tall 190 lbs. He has gray hair and blue eyes. PIFTM has an investigator actively working on this case
